ERA BIOTECH® launches novel inteins to the market

ERA BIOTECH ® fills its seventh patent in September 28^th 20011. The invention “Split Inteins and Uses Thereof” is about the production and characterization of these novel inteins that add commercial value to the ones already exist in the market.

The project, which was completed after one and a half year of work, was managed in the research department of ERA BIOTECH ® that is located at the Scientific Park of Barcelona (PCB). It is intended to reach the community of scientist’s specialist on this field and give ERA BIOTECH ® visibility in front of other biotechnology companies that could be interested in this new product and its broad number of applications.

Inteins can be used in the specific cleavage of recombinant proteins, in purification protocols, peptides cyclization or protein targeting, to mention some. Moreover, in the same protein engineering world, it is important the emerging use of inteins to modify recombinant proteins with therapeutical applications.
