About ERA Biotech
ERA enables, commercializes and develops a family of disruptive technologies based on assembler peptides and designed storage organelles. The Zera® peptide, when fused to a protein of interest, catalyzes the in vivo formation of designed protein storage organelles, called StorPro®. Zera® and StorPro® can enable difficult to express proteins and increase the manufacture net yield, both upstream and downstream, for recombinant peptides and proteins made in most eukaryotic cell systems. The technologies show potential for additional applications in drug discovery and drug delivery.
In the coming years, ERA intends to a) develop products to IND, b) optimize and deploy the technology by licensing, and c) continue the development of its first-in-space IP portfolio.
ERA’s core scientific team operates from a state-of-the-art scientific park in Barcelona, one of the most beautiful and rapidly growing world commercial centers. In Q4 of 2007, the company moved in a 170 m2 laboratory, and is now ready to grow its current team of 10 scientists.
The company has established research and early-stage commercial relationships with over 30 organizations in Europe, North and South America, and Africa, including a 3-year pan-European characterization project.
The Zera®/StorPro® technology allows cells to accumulate proteins rather than to secrete them; as well it calls for simpler and faster recovery and purification strategies. This represents a disruption of the current protein-production paradigm, and is a key technological and communication challenge for ERA and its VP Technology.
