Zera® technology
Enhances eukaryotic production lines
Downstream issues and difficult proteins make the production of
biopharmaceuticals a costly proposition, despite multiple g/l titers of secreted
proteins. ERA Biotech offers something different. Its Zera® technology boosts
the productivity of known cell lines, simplifies purification and standardizes
process development, thanks to three neat natural attributes: in vivo
encapsulation, one-step concentration by density and Zera®-specific affinity
capture.
Zera® is a protein production enhancement system that enables
high protein titers and creates opportunities for cost-effective recovery of
protein products. The proprietary technology provides for highly concentrated
protein recovery which reduces handling and equipment volumes and serves as a
purification tag. Zera® improves productivity in most eukaryotic production
lines and is available for licensing (drug development, drug discovery and
R&D) from the Barcelona-based ERA Biotech.
ERA’s technology has two components:
- The StorPro™ organelles formed by Zera fusions safely sequester large quantities of properly folded recombinant proteins. StorPro® organelles both protect the cell factory from deleterious or toxic properties of the target product, and shield the accumulating recombinant proteins from proteolytic degradation and undesirable host-specific modifications. The assembled storage organelles are amenable to isolation by pre-purification density separation protocols, thus allowing high protein-product concentrations prior to downstream purification.
Zera® assembler peptides and StorPro® organelles deliver a novel approach for optimizing both the expression and purification of recombinant proteins.
